Papademos is certainly a competent expert in finance and economy.
The crisis appeared as a financial one at first because financial difficulties are most evident and touch proportions and dynamics of most important established interests and power positions.
But the real causes of the crisis are mental and cultural and cannot get controled by financial and economical mechanisms and financial transaction modules.
The financial problems are just a kind of indication panel, as e.g. a fuel gage. So, if the fuel gage shows the tank to be empty or indicate extraordinary high fuel consumption, it most likely doesn’t help to repair or replace the fuel gage.
Of course, this sample is too simple to be compaired with the crisis to deplore but exactly because of the high complexity of interdependency between finance, economy, politics at one hand, dynamics of physical co-presence resp. contemporaneyity of masses of human beings and their results as organized collectivity, culture, states, societies e.t.c. at the other hand, it is useless to try to manage this crisis just by settling the finances. It won’t work!
